A parody of the circular regulation signs bolted to posts all

across Japan. The real ones govern speed, height, weight. This

one governs something the law cannot.

Japan's labor standards law caps overtime at 36 hours a month.

That is the number on this plate. Everyone knows the real number

is higher.

I live in Tokyo and photograph the parts of it that tourists walk

past — faded enamel signage, rusted steel posts, the texture of

paint after forty years of rain. This design began as my own

photograph of a regulation sign in east Tokyo, and was rebuilt as

vector artwork. The text is fictional.
